NCEL News - Season 2008/09

12th February, 2009

Pikes Positive After FA Visit

Pickering Town have been paid a visit by FA Ground Graders this week as they look to make the move up to the UniBond League.

The Pikes, who are currently second in the Premier Division and five points behind leaders Mickleover Sports, had an inspection carried out at Mill Lane on Tuesday.

Last season, they were denied a chance to progress as, although they had the required amount of seating, it was situated in two separate stands which was against the regulations.

A change in the requirements since then, though, has meant that would not be a problem this time round.

Chairman Tony Dunning said: "Following the inspection, a very positive meeting took place with representatives from the club.

"Whilst it was pointed out that there are a number of minor alterations to be made and a few jobs to be completed, both parties were confident that the work will be completed by the deadline on the 31st March, 2009.

"During the above meeting, it was also confirmed that only one team will be promoted from the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division in to the UniBond First Division."

Meanwhile, Pickering's Commercial Manager, Brian Wood, has stepped down from his role at Mill Lane.

Tony Dunning has been quick to pay respect to his work, saying: "I would like to go on record in thanking Brian for his loyal service to Pickering Town CFC during his latest spell on the Management Committee.

"It is fair to say that when Brian joined the team, the club's future was looking extremely grim.

"He has made a huge contribution with all his hard work and endeavour and he leaves the club in a much healthier state."

The new structure of the club's Management Committee will be announced once it has been finalised.
