Long Eaton United News - Season 2009/10
18th November, 2009
The Derby Telegraph is reporting that Glyn Stacey has returned to Long Eaton United as their new manager.
He replaces Mark Harvey who was dismissed by the club at the weekend.
Stacey was working alongside Harvey at Grange Park in a joint manager role until he resigned during the summer.
"It is a bit of a shock to be back so soon," Stacey told the Derby Telegraph.
"I wanted to get back into football and the chance came out of the blue.
"I'd just got back from holiday and I got a call from the club asking me if I could have a chat with them.
"They offered me the chance to go back and I didn't hesitate."

Harvey Sacked As Long Eaton Boss
Long Eaton United have parted company with their manager, Mark Harvey.
It comes after the club bowed out of the FA Vase at the weekend but chairman Jim Fairley cited the team's league position as the reason behind the decision.
They are twelfth in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division, seventeen points behind leaders Scarborough Athletic.
Fairley told the Derbyshire Evening Telegraph: "Our league position is not what we envisaged at this stage of the season, so we decided to make a change.
"I thought Saturday's game was one we could have won but that one defeat did not have a bearing on the decision.
"Every club gets injuries over the course of a season and it is the manager's job to replace injured players.
"I wouldn't dream of having a go at Mark, though. Last season was fantastic and I like the guy immensely but, as I said, our current league position is not where we want to be."
Mark Harvey, also speaking to the Derbyshire Evening Telegraph, said: "I had a phone call on Sunday telling me that the club felt it was time for a change.
"To be honest, it came as quite a shock and I'm absolutely devastated about it.
"Personally, I feel it is a very harsh decision.
"But there is nothing I can do about it and I have to take it on the chin."

Long Eaton Field Unregistered Player
Long Eaton United played an unregistered player during this week's Presidents Cup clash with Scarborough Athletic.
The Grange Park side won the clash 1-0 on Tuesday but informed the League of their error the following day.
The matter will now be discussed and a ruling made by the Management Board at their next meeting in October.
In the meantime, future draws in the Competition will include both Long Eaton and Scarborough as an 'either-or' option.

The Derby Telegraph reports that a whip-round by Long Eaton United has brought a smile to the face of leg break victim, Paolo Piliero.
The striker has got an unexpected present of a PlayStation 3 following his injury in last Saturday's 2-0 FA Cup defeat by Loughborough Dynamo.
Piliero broke both his tibula and fibula in the game and underwent an operation to pin his leg later that day.
His team-mates and club officials were so upset for the 22-year-old, who lives in Long Eaton, that they decided to have a collection, with one of the opposition fans donating £50.
Piliero said: "It was a complete surprise and has touched me. I didn't know what to say.
"I received £400 from the club and sent my girlfriend, Vicky, out to buy me a PS3.
"A few of the lads are coming round to my mum's house in Trowell, where I'm staying because it is easier to get around, to play on the PS3 with me.
"My leg is in plaster all the way up to my thigh, so being at mum's house means that I'm being well looked after!"
Long Eaton manager Mark Harvey says that the gesture of his players and the club's supporters shows that football is not all about money and glamour.
"We're not a rich club but we're close knit and Paolo is very well thought of," said Harvey.
"The lads all decided to donate their wages, which isn't much, to Paolo and my wife did a collection, too.
"One of the Loughborough Dynamo supporters donated £50, which is incredible and we rang him up afterwards to thank him.
"Paolo hardly missed a game for us last season and we're disappointed that he has suffered this terrible injury but it wasn't a particularly malicious challenge by the Loughborough player.
"Thankfully, there was no ligament damage and Paolo is hopeful of being back in action before the end of the year, fingers crossed."

A charity donation following Long Eaton United's KoolSport NCEL League Cup victory last season has been handed over.
£500 was available to the winner's chosen cause from Baris Group Ltd., the sponsors of the Cup Final hosts, Staveley Miners Welfare.
Long Eaton decided that it was to be given to the Ronald MacDonald House Charity who support families with children in hospital - and here is a picture of them receiving the donation.

The club will also be honoured at a civic reception at Long Eaton Town Hall next month.
It will be hosted by newly elected mayor Terry Holbrook whilst councillors Mike Wallis and Roland Hosker - who gives a lot of time to the club - will also be in attendance.
The event takes place on Monday 10th August and had been delayed to allow manager Mark Harvey to complete his holiday to Portugal.

Worrall Joins Long Eaton Management
Long Eaton United have announced that Andy Worrall will be taking over the post of joint manager.
He will be joining from Ilkeston Town where he has been reserve team manager and general coach.
He replaces Glyn Stacey who left the club stating he wished to have a go at management in his own right elsewhere.
The club can also announce that skipper Micky Allsop has had his ankle operation and hopes to return to action sometime in October.
The clubs other long term casualty, influential midfielder Martin Bowles is still awaiting an op on a bunion.
But, he has stated he feels fit enough to train next week and so hopes to make himself available for the opening games of the season.
